What Science Has Discovered…
and the Qur’an Had Already Declared
Since the dawn of history, humankind has sought to understand the mysteries of the universe and existence: How did it begin? And why does it appear in such exquisite design?
With the progress of science — physics, astronomy, and biology — astonishing facts have been uncovered about the origin of the universe, its expansion, the motion of its bodies, the formation of matter, and the beginnings of human creation.
Yet the most remarkable truth is that these discoveries, which scientists reached after millennia of study and experimentation, were already indicated in the Qur’an more than fourteen centuries ago.
1. The Big Bang and the Origin of the Universe
Modern science has concluded that the universe originated from a great event called the Big Bang, about 13.8 billion years ago.
All matter, energy, time, and space were compressed into an infinitesimal point before exploding into galaxies, stars, and planets.
Allah said In quran:
قال تعالى:
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
[الأنبياء: 30]
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (Al-Anbiyāʾ 21:30, Sahih International)
2. The Expansion of the Universe
Edwin Hubble discovered that galaxies are moving apart — meaning the universe is in constant expansion.
Allah said In quran:
وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْيدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ
[الذاريات: 47]
“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.” (Adh-Dhāriyāt 51:47, Sahih International)
3. The Structure of the Universe and Allah’s Upholding of It
The universe operates under a precise system governed by gravity and fundamental forces, dark matter, dark energy, the Higgs boson, and superstrings. Were any of these to fail, the universe would collapse.
Allah said In quran:
اللَّهُ الَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِي لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ يُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّكُمْ تُوقِنُونَ
[الرعد: 2]
“It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.” (Ar-Raʿd 13:2, Sahih International)
Allah said In quran:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُمْسِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ أَنْ تَزُولَا ۚ وَلَئِن زَالَتَا إِنْ أَمْسَكَهُمَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا
[فاطر: 41]
“Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.” (Fāṭir 35:41, Sahih International)
4. The Pulsar Star (al-Ṭāriq) and Its Sound
Scientists have observed pulsars — neutron stars emitting regular radio signals like knocks.
Allah said In quran:
وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ * وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ * النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ
[الطارق: 1-3]
“By the sky and the night comer. And what can make you know what is the night comer? It is the piercing star.” (At-Ṭāriq 86:1–3, Sahih International)
5. The Descent of Iron and Water to Earth
Science has established that iron originated in supernova explosions, and that water formed through cosmic reactions before descending to Earth.
قال تعالى :
وَأَنزَلْنَا الْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ
[الحديد: 25]
Allah said :
“…And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people…” (Al-Ḥadīd 57:25, Sahih International)
Allah said In quran:
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍ بِهِ لَقَادِرُونَ [المؤمنون: 18]
“And We sent down from the sky water in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are able to take it away.” (Al-Muʾminūn 23:18, Sahih International)
6. The Motion of the Sun and the Solar System
Science shows that the sun moves in its orbit toward a destination in the constellation Hercules.
Allah said In quran:
وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ
[يس: 38]
“And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.” (Yā Sīn 36:38, Sahih International)
7. Tawaf and the Cosmic Orbits
The entire cosmos is in motion:
Electrons orbit nuclei. Planets orbit the sun. Galaxies move in their paths.
Similarly, humans circumambulate the Kaʿbah — a symbolic harmony with the cosmic order.
8- Numerical Wonders of the Sun, the Moon, and the Days
The word “Sun” (الشمس) is mentioned 33 times, corresponding to its solar cycle.
The word “Moon” (القمر) is mentioned 27 times, equal to its lunar mansions and orbit around Earth.
The word “Day” (اليوم) appears 365 times, matching the number of days in the solar year.
The word “Month” (الشهر) is mentioned 12 times, equal to the number of months in a year.
Moreover, the Qur’an reveals the mathematical equivalence:
300 solar years = 309 lunar years.
Allah Said:
وَلَبِثُوا فِي كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ سِنِينَ وَازْدَادُوا تِسْعًا
“And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.”
(Surah al-Kahf, 25)
Indeed, 300 solar years equal exactly 309 lunar years due to the 11-day difference between the two calendars — a calculation that was not in reach of the Arabs at the time of revelation.
9- The Wisdom Behind Lunar Months Shifting Across Solar Seasons
Since lunar months are shorter than solar ones by about 11 days, they gradually shift through all seasons.
Fasting may occur in scorching summer, then years later in the cold of winter. Hajj may fall in the rainy season, and later in drought.
This ensures divine justice: no generation or region is exempt from hardship, nor uniquely favored with ease.
It is also noteworthy that the full cycle of these shifts takes 33 years. Whoever worships Allah across this span will have fulfilled acts of devotion in all seasons, symbolizing the completion of servitude in every circumstance.
10- Between the Backbone and the Ribs – Modern Discovery and Qur’anic Precedence
Allah said :
فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ • خُلِقَ مِنْ مَاءٍ دَافِقٍ • يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ
“So let man observe from what he was created. He was created from a fluid, ejected, emerging from between the backbone and the ribs
Science has uncovered that Primordial Germ Cells (PGCs) do not originate in the testes or ovaries, but rather in the yolk sac wall of the embryo. From there, they migrate to the intermediate region between the spinal column (ṣulb) and the front of the body (tarā’ib), forming the gonadal ridge, where they later differentiate into testes or ovaries.
Thus, the human seed originates precisely between the backbone and the ribs, in line with the Qur’an’s wording.
Furthermore, male fluid proceeds from his ṣulb (backbone), and female fluid from her tarā’ib (pelvic region with ovaries) — conception requires the union of both.
The Qur’an also affirms:
إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَبْتَلِيهِ
“Indeed, We created man from a mixed drop of fluids that We may test him.”
(Surah al-Insan, 2)
11- The Complete Cycle of Creation
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن طِينٍ • ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاهُ نُطْفَةً فِي قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ • ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظَامًا فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظَامَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَاهُ خَلْقًا آخَرَ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ
(Surah al-Mu’minun, 12–14)
The Qur’an describes human development in stages:
Nutfah (drop): fertilization of sperm and ovum.
‘Alaqah (clinging clot): embryo attaching to uterine wall.
Mudghah (chewed-like lump): somite formation.
Bones and flesh: skeleton forming, clothed in muscle. Another creation: human form completed and soul breathed.
It even outlines the life cycle: weakness → strength → weakness again
اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضَعْفًا وَشَيْبَةً
(Surah al-Rum, 54)
12- The Higgs Boson and Its Field – A Glimpse of Resurrection
In 2012, scientists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider announced the discovery of the Higgs Boson, the particle confirming the Higgs Field — the invisible fabric that grants particles their mass. Without it, matter, stars, planets, and life would not exist.
Yet, recent studies suggest the field is not perfectly stable, meaning the universe itself rests on a delicate balance that may collapse, unraveling matter and erasing existence.
The Qur’an foreshadowed this:
يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ وَبَرَزُوا لِلَّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ
(Surah Ibrahim, 48)
فَإِذَا النُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ • وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ فُرِجَتْ • وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ • وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ
(Surah al-Mursalat, 8–11)
Meaning: the collapse of matter and the cosmic order — exactly what physicists predict if the Higgs Field decays.
The message: This world is transient; the Hereafter is the true permanence.
Allah said :
وَإِنَّ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ لَهِيَ الْحَيَوَانُ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ
(Surah al-‘Ankabut, 64)
Conclusion
Thus, what modern science has uncovered — from the Big Bang, the expanding universe, the sun’s motion, the numerical harmony of solar and lunar years, the origin of iron and water, the stages of human creation, even to the Higgs boson — had already been referenced in the Qur’an with concise, miraculous expressions.
فَسُبْحَانَ مَن قَالَ:
سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ ۗ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
[فصلت: 53]
“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the Truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?” (Fuṣṣilat 41:53, Sahih International)
